How do you know a carpet cleaner will agree with your carpet or not?
I always wondered about this because ever single bottle of carpet cleaner I’ve purchased says to test the product to make sure it agrees with the carpet you are using it on. How do you know the product "does not" agree with your carpet? Will there be some light fading right off the bat? You would think it would take some time before the product actually makes any significant changes to your carpet. By that time it would probably be too late.

Normally, you use a cleaner and it gets the carpet clean. End of story and that is probably 98% of the time.
However, some cleaners may be to strong for a carpet, and if it is a cheaper carpet or if the dye on it is not quality, then the cleaner could clean the color right out of the carpet. Or the chemicals in the cleaner could react with the dye in the carpet creating a completely different color all together or even eating away at the carpet itself. Most likely, you would find out if there was an issue within the first hour or two.
This is why they suggest testing a new cleaner in a spot that is not noticeable. Say like behind a dresser or in a closet.
Hope this helps.
If you know your brand/manufacture call them first and ask but if not then the people who installed the carpet. Otherwise test your carpet under a piece of furniture like the couch.
Yes carpet can change color-I ran a janitorial service for 6 years so I know. Testing is a must since there are so many differnet kinds of carpets.
